Dropping a year for CLAT preparation online or offline can be a difficult choice to make for anyone who faces this situation. Whether to drop or not to drop, that is a difficult question. If you are confused about which option to pick in this dilemma, this blog might just help you to make up your mind.

Why it is worth to drop a year for CLAT Preparation:

A lot of students drop a year after their 12th class to dedicate a year to CLAT preparation. It is rather true that dropping a has been hyped too much, however common it has become nowadays. Dropping a year can help in multiple ways.

  1. Focused preparation, Less stress

Dropping a year would mean that you can now give your focused uninterrupted attention to your CLAT preparation by joining a dedicated CLAT online course or CLAT offline coaching center. There is no juggling between two entirely different syllabus, coaching centers, or self-study schedules that require different approaches and equally hard work. Your stress levels will also be double if you try to cover two different courses at the same time.

  1. 12th Boards Results

It is also very important to work hard on your 12th class board results as this result might affect your admission into certain colleges, irrespective of the fact that you crack the CLAT exam or NOT. While 12th class syllabus requires a significant amount of time and hard work, no matter which stream you belong to. If you prepare for CLAT simultaneously, you might have difficulty managing your time and this might make your 12th board's results suffer. Hence, it is better to focus on the 12th while you are there, and then dedicate another year to CLAT.

  1. Nothing to lose

A lot of people will tell you that by dropping a whole year you are ‘wasting your time’ or ‘delaying your graduation’. However, this is ironic. No amount of time spent in hard work and preparation is ever ‘wasted’. The maximum delay your graduation will get is 1 or two years, which again, would not matter if you crack CLAT and get into an esteemed Law College. At this point, you will realize that there is not much to lose.

  1. Looking back

There are chances that you will crack your CLAT after dropping a year, and there are chances that you won't. In both cases, when you look back at it, you won't be disappointed. For if you crack it, you will be happy that you dropped a year to work hard. Just in case, if you don’t crack it, you will be glad that you gave your best attempt with time and hard work.

Why it is not worth to drop a year for CLAT Preparation:

Some people suggest that it is not very wise to drop a year for CLAT preparation considering some very legit points. These points are rather important and might affect your final course of action greatly.

  1. Course duration

Before you decide to drop a year for CLAT, you must know that most of the coaching centers for CLAT preparation will finish the entire CLAT syllabus within 4 to 5, no matter if it is an offline or online CLAT class. Some online CLAT courses will help you to finish the curriculum in just 3 months. This means that if you study with determination, the course won’t take you a full year to finish. Apart from this, CLAT 2021 is in May, so you can prepare for 2 or 3 months at any time between the year and then continue after your board exam.

  1. Comparatively newer

CLAT Exam is comparatively newer than other competitive exams in India. And hence, there are hardly 10 years of previous years’ question papers. This means that it is easier to get a grasp on the paper pattern and type of questions that are asked on the exam. It is also possible to cover them in a very short time.

  1. Hard Work

It is important to understand that dropping or no dropping is subjective. What matters the most is your hard work and smart work. If you drop a year for this exam and still don’t work hard enough, it will be a terrible waste of time, money, and effort. You don’t need to study for an entire year to crack CLAT. All you need is a smart strategy and firm determination to crack CLAT.

  1. Determination

Before you decide on dropping a year for CLAT, you should be clear enough about your decision to pursue law as a career. Is the law what you want to study? Do you really want to study Law at one of the listed Law institutes in India? If you crack CLAT, you will easily get a seat in one of those colleges. However, this is not your final destination. This is where your journey starts. You will need to dedicate 5 years of hard work to finish this curriculum, which is not very easy.

No matter how legit all these points might sound to you, they are all subjective. What works for one person might not work for another and vice versa. Before taking any decision, you should consider what works the best for you depending on your current situation or any future plans. Never make a decision based on someone else’s opinions. Try to understand the matter completely and make up your mind on it before giving a final opinion on it. Once you are confident that Law is what you want to do, do not be afraid to give it all it takes, be it an extra year or hours of daily sleep schedule.
